STERN/STEIN family summary

If you find a match, please contact me with your info. Thanks!

My father's side of the family:

Dad's parents are Fannie (Fay/Fejgel/Feygel) Stern (originally Sztern) and Samuel (Scheil) Cohen. They were born in 1907. Sam died in 1985; Fannie died in 1997.

Fannie's parents were Rachel(a?) Winograd and Philip (originally Pinchas) Stern/Sztern. They all came from Poland, near Wisoky (aka Visokie, Visokie-Litovsk, etc.) Fannie says this was "along the Neman River". Philip's naturalization papers say he was born in 1880 in Tchernavicz, Poland (now Chernovtsky, Ukraine). He was a tailor. Philip died in 1955. Rachel died in 1973. Philip and Rachel are both buried in Beth David Cemetery, Nassau County, Long Island (see here for a huge version of the above map). See the AJGS Cemetery Project/Ukraine for Tchernavicz, POL/Chernovtsky, UKR cemetery info.

Philip came to NYC in 1910, along with a friend named Abe. Philip lived with his brother Sam (see below) when he first came over. Fannie came to NYC with her mother during WWI. I have a copy of Grandma Fannie's internal Polish papers ...her name here was listed as "Feyjgel Sztern". Here's a photo of Philip (it's not easy to make out, unfortunately; Philip is the one on the left) when he was in his 40s or so.

Fannie was an only child.

Fannie's father Philip had brothers named Samuel Stein and Nathan Stein.

Sam Stein's wife's name was Lena Citron. I've gotten in touch with Sam and Lena's son Moe Stein's graduation pictureMoe Stein (graduation picture here) and another of Sam and Lena's descendants, who was kind enough to send me the Citron/Cytryn/Sitron genealogy they've collected. I also have Nathan's wedding photo.

Philip Stern's parents were Chasha (Jessie) and "Shraga Feivel" Stern.
Shraga Feivel came to the U.S. late in life and lived with Sam and Lena for a while. He had at least one brother.
I've been told that "Shraga Feivel" is a Hebrew-Aramaic title meaning "light". What sort of person would have this title?
